Selling Your Website? 3 Tips To Help You Make The Most From It

Posted on: 29 January 2016

If you have a website and want to sell it, it can bring in a lot of money for you if you go about it the right way. You have worked hard building your site up, and it would be a shame to sell it for much less than what it is worth. Below are some tips that will help you get the most money out of your website that you can.

Read Over Your Website

If someone is reading your website and sees a lot of grammar mistakes or misspellings, this will turn them away quickly. You also need to make sure you mention the correct amount of visitors the site receives each month. For example, if you say your website receives 8,985, and the potential buyer sees the total is 7,805 on your website, this is a big turn off.

Make Sure You Are Descriptive

If you are selling your website through an auction or in other ways, you need to make sure it is descriptive. When someone views your website, they should be able to read the summary and gain a lot of details. If, however, your summary is vague and shows very little information, this is a bad sign for buyers.

Your summary should be written in high level writing, and should be the first thing listed on the auction copy. Further down in the copy, go into much more details. Headers should be used to break up the text to make it easier to read. If you are not a good writer, consider hiring someone to write for you.

Showcase the Benefits of Your Website

One of the first thing potential buyers want to know is why you are selling your website. They will wonder why you would be selling a website if it is making a lot of money for you. For this reason, make sure you give them a credible reason. Prove to them the income they could expect to make, and provide proof of what you make from the site. As mentioned before, you should also show them proof of the amount of traffic your site receives.

If you have never sold a website before, you should consider getting some outside help. You could hire an individual who has sold many websites or you could hire a website broker. The broker will offer many services, such as promoting your website, determining the value, assisting you with negotiations, and much more.
